We’re back in Germany! GBTA Europe, Munich 2019.
Germany has to be one of our favourite countries to visit here at Taxback International. We’ve already seen a massive part of this breathtaking country, having visited the cities of Berlin and Frankfurt in the past. Now, with GBTA Europe 2019 on the horizon, Munich is our next stop! Take a look at what’s going to be waiting there for us…
Shopping at Midnightbazar
Midnightbazar kicks off at 5 pm every other Saturday and involves vendors selling clothes, records, nick-nacks and more! This night market allows you to browse row upon row of great bargains. You can also grab dinner while you’re there at one of various street food and cocktail stands.
Relax and have a beer
There’s a beer-drinking opportunity for all weathers in Munich. There are beer gardens all across the city and they are always packed with good music and good people! Most famous is the Chinese pagoda (Chinesischer Turm) in the English Garden – the only place where you can grab a litre of beer and listen to a Bavarian band playing inside a Chinese temple. There are also beer halls for when the weather isn’t on our side. These are social spots, serving their own brews on shared tables, with local dishes to soak up the beer. The Hofbräuhaus is most famous, where tourists mix with Lederhosen-wearing gents to drink beer in litre steins and snack on pretzels from waitresses in dirndls while a Bavarian band plays.
Eat your way through the Viktualienmarkt
Viktualienmarkt is Munich’s biggest outdoor food market. Originally a simple farmer’s market, now it’s a real foodie hub where you can get gourmet local produce. Here is where you’ll experience the real taste of Munich.
Surfing on the Eisbach
Yes, you read that right. This landlocked city offers surfing on the waves the Eisbach (“Ice Stream”) River. Surfing has become a major pastime for locals and tourists. The sport was actually banned until 2010, but now draws brave professional and semi-professional athletes in wetsuits year-round.
