The Ultimate Travel Guide: London [SAP Concur Fusion EMEA 2019]

It’s that time of the year again when the Taxback International team are preparing to travel to London for the SAP Concur Fusion EMEA event. This year the event takes place in the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on June 18th and 19th.

A trip to London wouldn’t be complete without visiting some of the capitals most famous tourist attractions. Whether you are in London on business or pleasure you will be sure to find something to do and see. Not to forget the great food London has to offer, it would be a shame not to sample some of the local delicacies while you are there also!

Where to get the Perfect Selfie?

The London Eye

The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel located on the South Bank of the River Thames. Not for the faint-hearted, it stands at a staggering 443 feet tall and 394 feet wide. See some of the most iconic London views from the top of one of the highest viewing points in London.

Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace serves as the main residence of her Majesty the Queen of England. It opens the door to the public during the summer months allowing you to explore the lavish 775 rooms. Not to forget the infamous guards that protect the Queen and the grounds of the palace. They are easily spotted by their red tunics, bearskin hats and serious domineer. Many people spend their time trying to make them laugh and 99.9% of the time fail.

Big Ben

How could you go to London and not get a selfie with Big Ben? Big Ben is the name given to the great bell that hangs behind the clock face of the Elizabeth Tower. Don’t be expecting to hear the bells chimes, however. In 2017 renovation work began and Big Bens chimes were silenced. The works are expected to last 4 years and Big Ben is expected to start chiming again in 2021.

Madame Tussauds

Fancy getting a picture with your favourite celebrity?! Madame Tussauds is the world-famous wax museum with life-like wax figures of some of the world’s most famous faces. Get a backstage pass and meet some of the biggest faces in the music and film industry. Madame Tussauds is guaranteed to provide hours of entertainment and giggles on your trip to London.

Warner Bros Studio Tour London

For all you Harry Potter fans out there! The Warner Bros Studio Tour allows you to explore the magic of the wizarding world of Harry Potter. The unique walking tour lets you wander through all the beautiful sets, just how they appeared in the films, while also letting you sample the infamous buttermilk beer. Discover your inner wizard and get lost in this magical world.

West End Show

What better way to relax and unwind in the evening than attending one of the award-winning west end shows. From musicals to plays to comedies, you are sure to find a show to suit everyone. West End shows take place in over 40 venues all which are easily accessible by public transport.

Britain is not always known for being top of the world cuisine lists. Although, you’d be surprised what delicious comfort food you can get while you’re here!

Fish & Chips

Perhaps the biggest staple and most popular in Britain is the traditional Fish & Chips! Coated in a deep-fried crispy batter, with piping hot succulent chips to accompany, you can’t go home until you’ve found the best Fish & Chips shop in London.

Bangers & Mash

Also known as sausages and mashed potatoes. This extremely simple dish is widely known as “pub grub”, which means it’s quick and easy and will be found on most menus in London.

Yorkshire Pudding

Not a dessert!! Yorkshire pudding is a batter made from flour, eggs and milk and is usually served alongside meat and vegetables with gravy over it.

How to get around London?

Making your away around London couldn’t be easier! The iconic red double-decker buses are a common sight. They offer a convenient and scenic route around the city and are also easy on the pocket with fares as little as £1.50 (€1.70).

The London Underground or ‘The Tube’ as it is most commonly known also offers an easy route to travel around London without the hassle of city traffic. The tube runs as early as 5am and finishes at midnight with night tubes available some nights also, so you will never be stuck for a way home.
